Movie Review | Because of Winn Dixie [2005]

'Everything good that happened that summer happened because of Winn Dixie.'

Based on the novel by Kate DiCamillo, Because of Winn Dixie is the charming story of a young girl, Opal's, relationship with a dog and her emotionally distant father who is a Preacher. As Opal and Winn Dixie journey through the small southern town that is their new home that summer, their interactions and friendships with the locals create a renewed sense of community through the discovery of some insightful life lessons. Because of Winn Dixie sensitively and gently deals with some significant issues such as abandonment, alcoholism, death of a loved one and change. This is balanced with the most delightful moments of humour. 'Winn Dixie and Opal weave through the small town like a needle and thread repairing a patchwork quilt.'
